The Inner View continues my ongoing exploration of the human figure as a way of expressing quiet emotional and psychological states. My practice is rooted in an interest in human connection, vulnerability and the space between our inner experience and the world we present to others. I am particularly drawn to moments of stillness, when a person becomes absorbed in their own thoughts and temporarily detached from their surroundings.

In this painting, the figure is shown in a moment of introspection, with her gaze turned away from the viewer. Although her body is visible and exposed, her thoughts remain private and inaccessible. The contrast between the open figure and the surrounding muted green space creates a sense of an internal landscape — a place that exists beyond what can immediately be seen.

My intention is to explore the idea that seeing is always personal. We may look at the same person, place or situation, yet experience it through entirely different emotional and internal perspectives. The Inner View therefore invites the viewer to consider what lies beyond the visible surface: the thoughts, emotions and experiences that shape the way each of us sees the world.

I wanted the painting to remain quiet and open-ended, allowing the viewer to bring their own experiences to the work rather than offering a single interpretation.
